Abstract

The development and use of SupTech may increase the efficiency and efficacy of financial supervision and may contribute to management of the risks that accompany the development of financial technology. Nevertheless, current discussions regarding SupTech are divergent, and the related literature is scant. The lack of a common ground for conversation and debate among regulators, academics, and industry members has delayed market development and the possible transition of the regulatory regime. To fill the research gap, this paper aims to provide an analytical framework and development guidelines for SupTech. The paper begins with an analysis of the rise of SupTech and trends in its development. The paper then presents a new paradigm of technology-enabled financial regulation. Finally, the aforementioned analytical framework and development roadmap are proposed to assist regulators and other stakeholders in assessing the current stage of SupTech development and identifying potential routes to the next level of development.
